Sound familiar?

Watching your child struggle at school is one of the hardest things to see. You don’t have to keep watching.

Thousands of parents across the UK reach the same point: their child isn’t thriving at school, and home education starts to feel like the only option. Here’s what that usually looks like.

01

Your child dreads going to school

The tears before the school run, the Sunday-night anxiety, the constant “I don’t want to go” — when school itself has become the source of distress, something has to change.

02

Bullied, or simply invisible

Whether it’s unkind classmates or just being one of thirty in a room, feeling misunderstood, excluded or unseen at school takes a real toll on a child’s confidence — and it’s heartbreaking to watch from the outside.

03

Not sure where to even start

Curriculum, routine, legality, socialisation — home educating your child yourself can feel overwhelming before you’ve even begun. Most parents don’t realise it doesn’t have to be entirely on them.

04

Worried you’re not qualified to teach

You don’t need a teaching degree to give your child a proper education at home — you need the right school behind you. Sophia’s specialist teachers do the teaching; you stay the parent.

05

Will it actually be recognised?

If you move away from mainstream school, you want to know it still counts — real qualifications, real exams and real accreditation, not an informal arrangement with no safety net.

06

Family life doesn’t fit a rigid school day

Whether it’s a training schedule, frequent moves, or simply a child who needs a calmer pace, some families need an accredited education that flexes around real life — not the other way round.

“What if bringing your child’s education home didn’t mean figuring it all out alone?”

The Sophia Difference

A premium online school built for the way children
actually learn.

Born digital. Built different. Small classes, real teachers and daily pastoral care — for families ready for something better than a school day that isn’t working.

01

Core Principle

Small classes that make every child visible

With a strict maximum of 8 pupils in core subjects, no child gets lost in the crowd the way they might have before. Our teachers see exactly where your child is in their work — live, during every lesson.

02

Live Every Day

100% live lessons: you never have to be the teacher

Every core lesson is taught live by a specialist teacher, so you don’t need to plan a curriculum or mark a single piece of work. Cameras-on teaching, with every lesson saved to your child’s Digital Notebook for review at any time.

03

Master Teachers

Specialist online teachers & Edexcel examiners

Every student begins the day with their form tutor in Holistic Horizons — a structured PSHE session. Secondary students are also assigned a weekly mentor. A child who was struggling to be seen at their old school should never feel that way again.

04

Holistic Care

Pastoral support built into every single day

Every student begins the day with their form tutor in Holistic Horizons — a structured PSHE session. Secondary students are also assigned a weekly mentor. Wellbeing isn't an afterthought; it's a daily commitment at Sophia.

05

Flexible Education

A timetable that fits your child's life

Core academic lessons run Monday–Thursday within 8am–4pm UK time. Fridays are dedicated to our celebrated Enrichment programme — App Development, DJ-ing, British Sign Language, Debate Club and more. All lessons are recorded for athletes or international families.

06

Full Transparency

Parents are partners, not bystanders

Parents are invited as guardians in our secure Google Classrooms — full visibility of Digital Notebooks and lesson recordings at all times, so you can see exactly how your child is settling in. Weekly or bi-weekly progress meetings and a dedicated Lead for Student Success keep you entirely in the loop.

What Families Say

The proof isn’t in our promises.
It’s in their words.

Our child is very well supported by the academic and pastoral staff, and has really enjoyed the enrichment activities on Fridays. The tutors are wonderfully flexible, and our child has thrived this year. I would wholeheartedly recommend Sophia High School.

Common Questions

Home education, answered.

Everything you need to know before contacting us.
It’s a bigger decision than switching schools, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure. Many Sophia families start exactly where you are — a child who isn’t thriving, and parents exploring whether there’s a better way. We offer a no-pressure discovery call to talk through your child’s situation and give you an honest answer about whether Sophia is the right fit.
Every core lesson at Sophia is taught live by a qualified specialist teacher. We do not use pre-recorded content for core teaching. Lessons are recorded and stored in each student’s Digital Notebook so they can review material at any time — but the teaching itself always happens live, in real time, with a real teacher who knows your child.

Yes. Sophia High School is a full-time British independent online school, accredited by the UK Department for Education (DfE). We are a member of COBIS and ISA, and a Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre. All safer recruiting checks are identical to those carried out by physical independent schools.

Our commitment to a maximum of 6–8 students in core subject classes is non-negotiable. When a learning pod reaches capacity, we form a new group with a new teacher. This is central to our model and is never compromised. It is precisely why places at Sophia are strictly limited at any given time.

Yes. As a Pearson Edexcel Accredited Virtual Centre, we offer Remote Invigilation for IGCSEs and International A-Levels. Your child can sit their examinations from home under secure remote supervision. Exams can also be taken at an approved examination centre if preferred. An additional examination fee applies.
Core lessons run Monday to Thursday within an 8am–4pm UK time window, with built-in breaks and independent study time. Fridays are dedicated to our Enrichment programme. All live lessons are recorded, making Sophia a genuinely flexible education option for elite athletes, families in different time zones, and students with individual scheduling needs.
Our small class sizes are inherently more supportive for students with additional needs. Teachers use visual learning cues, adaptive digital tools, and real-time Digital Notebook feedback to personalise every lesson. We work closely with families before enrolment to map individual learning profiles. We also offer dedicated English language support for students where English is an additional language.
Absolutely — and this is one of the reasons many sports academy families choose us. We offer amended timetables for elite athletes and performers, ensuring academic rigour is never sacrificed for sporting ambition. Recorded lessons mean that even when a training session clashes, no learning is missed. A number of our current students compete at national and international level.
